About Timothy Freke
Timothy Freke (also known as Tim) is an authority on world spirituality. He is the author of over twenty books, including The Illustrated World Scriptures, Tao Te Ching and Principles of Native American Spirituality. His books and live performances have inspired thousands of people throughout the world, and have earned him a reputation of a groundbreaking scholar and free-thinker. In his life-changing talks and seminars he shares simple ideas and practical techniques to help participants wake up to oneness and celebrate separateness.
Freke is a British writer and spiritualist, and has written several books on world mysticism. He has co-authored several books with Peter Gandy; their works (backed up by scholarly research) are written to be accessible for a popular audience. He also gives lectures and runs experiential seminars in the UK, USA and Europe.
Freke's recent book (co-authored with Peter Gandy), The Laughing Jesus: Religious Lies and Gnostic Wisdom, is a critique of religious literalism and affirms mystical spirituality. This book follows on from The Jesus Mysteries which was a top 10 best-seller in the UK and USA, an Amazon.com 'surprise best-seller', and a 'Book of the Year' in The Daily Telegraph. Freke and Gandy's latest book The Gospel of the Second Coming is a departure from their usual academic style of writing, instead focusing on humor derived from Jesus, upon his resurrection, correcting the misunderstandings that have arisen since his first coming. Freke has written on Gnosticism, the ancient religious movement. However, Freke also uses the term to describe his mystical approach, contrasted with literalism, which he defines as rigid dogmatic religious belief and criticizes as a dangerous force in today's world.
Freke is a clear, passionate and highly entertaining voice for our collective awakening. He is a significant speaker at major conferences and is regularly featured in the global media. He has an Honors degree in Philosophy, and lives with his wife and two children in Glastonbury, England.
