Daryn Kagan - Showing the World What is Possible

About Daryn Kagan

A Stanford University graduate, veteran CNN news anchor Daryn Kagan is the creator and host of the award-winning DarynKagan.com, an inspirational online community that features a daily webcast of stories that are meant to “Show the World What’s Possible."  She is also the author of “What’s Possible” (Meredith Books) that was released in April 2008.

Daryn has worked in television news as a news anchor and correspondent for two decades.  She joined CNN in 1994 after spending numerous years as a reporter at local television news stations that included KTVK-TV in Phoenix.  Daryn first served as a news anchor and reporter for CNN/Sports Illustrated (CNN/SI,) the 24-hour sports news network from CNN and Sports Illustrated, covering such major events as the Super Bowl, the NBA playoffs and international figure skating from Russia.  She later moved to CNN's news division where she served as one of CNN’s main news anchors from 1998-2006, and also hosted the joint CNN and People magazine news program, “People in the News.”

During Daryn’s tenure with CNN, she traveled the world to report on breaking news stories and events, including live from from the Middle East during the second Gulf War, and Africa with rock band U2’s lead singer Bono and Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill to report on AIDS and famine across that continent. Additionally, she reported from across the U.S. from numerous Presidential elections, live from the red carpet during numerous Academy Award ceremonies in Los Angeles, from Cape Canaveral during the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy, and from D.C. during the hunt for the Washington, D.C.,-area sniper.  She was also on the air live the morning of September 11th, 2001, during the terrorist attacks against the United States.

After nearly 20 years in television news, Daryn decided to reinvent her career and pursue her dream of reporting 'her choice of stories' to the world, stories that are filled with inspiration and hope. She launched DarynKagan.com in November 2006 as the base of her media company, and began to offer daily webcasts of inspiring news stories that quickly caught on with Internet users and the media.  She extended her brand of inspiring news content to other platforms, including the TV film, “Breaking the Curse,” which ran on PBS stations across the U.S. in 2007 and won the 2008 Gracie Award for Outstanding Documentary.  Her next film, SOLAR TOWN USA, will air on PBS in January 2009.  In Kagan’s own words about DarynKagan.com, This isn't a "happy news," site.  It is more focused than that.  I would call it "hopeful" news.  My mission and the motto of the website is to "Show the World What Is Possible!" one story at a time.

Meredith Books released Daryn’s first book, “50 True Stories of People Who Dared to Dream They Could Make a Difference,” in April 2008.  What’s Possible! is a series of inspiring stories, each with the theme of overcoming obstacles, that includes stories about a blind sculpture, a double amputee triathlon athlete, and a heart transplant recipient who climbs mountains around the world to inspire others.  Daryn continues to spread a ray of hope, inspiration, love and belief via her website www.DarynKagan.com .
